Advanced II is the highest level of English language instruction we offer at Salt Lake Community College. While I have taught a variety of skill levels in my career as an ESL/EFL teacher, my principle responsibility at SLCC has been to develop and teach Advanced II courses. Two core courses are required of all students who attend our college and place into the Advanced II level of our ESL program: ESL 1010 Speaking and Listening and ESL 1020 Reading and Writing. Non-native speaking students who place into Advanced II cannot proceed into college English courses such as Freshman Composition without first successfully completing ESL 1010 and ESL 1020. Moreover, there are advanced skills courses taught in the Advanced II level to assist students with their pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and conversational skills.
In 2017, we began an initiative to develop our core courses into online courses as well. This has been a lengthy and intensive process involving the skills and cooperation of various faculty, administrators, and staff, and while we are still in the process of developing these online courses, I wish to share with you below elements of both in-class and online core courses for Advanced II Speaking and Listening, and Reading and Writing.

ONLINE COMPONENTS
Students in the online section of ESL 1010 will study the same subject matter as those students attending in class. However, to assist their learning at home, we have produced a collection of online media in audio and video format to enable online students to accomplish the same learning outcomes as students in class. My contribution in this collaborative effort has been to produce the textbook we are using and to write the scripts for the audio and video material. Here are a few samples from YouTube of the work we have produced for our online students, lectures given by myself and my colleagues Dean Huber and Gordon Dunne:
